about

A record I didn't plan to record. I was sitting on a balcony in St. Augustine, FL overlooking the beautiful marshland when "Halloween Eagles" showed up (thanks, Andy) unannounced. I quickly recorded a 'scratch' version on my ipad to get the idea down. There was some magic happening in that take, including the inexplicable 'record pops'. It led to a few more 'field recordings' (including the closer recorded, literally, in the woods) with some electronic embellishment during late night sessions at the home studio. It turned out to be the kind of 'existential folk' I'm usually most happy with. The other side of this record is that it is an expression of grief. I went some dark places, but music has always been a place of solace and companionship for me. Its a sad record. But sometimes life is just sad. This record is for a few departed friends and family, especially Billy, Naomi, and Matt. Its also for anyone who is experiencing grief, depression, or anxiety. You're not alone. You are loved.
