Gonna take a train to louisiana Gonna find myself some company Way Down Way Down Been feeling like this for a season Like the whole world is gettin mean And I need some shelter - ‘Fore it takes over me It don’t matter What you thought It don’t matter what you’re not In the city care forgot I once spent some time in West Virginia With people whose lives had washed away Way down.. Way down Family of four sitting in a driveway Trunk filled up with sleeping bags That Wills Creek water - took everything they had It don’t matter If you prayed It don’t matter If you stayed That muddy water… gonna have its say Maria I am looking for a reason To pack up what we need and slip away Way down way down Take that train down to louisiana Find ourselves some company Find some shelter Fore it washes all away It don’t matter If they talk It don’t matter True or not In the city care forgot

The Abyss (free) 04:01
Some say the world will end in fire Some say the righteous shall be flame Meanwhile we balance on this wire Hoping the gleam will light our way Lydia I don’t know how you do it But i know this place is better cause you’re here Trace the lid of the cup try to quiet your mind now And step away from the abyss Some say the days are growing short Some say the best is yet to come You say there’s only one way out And that’s to care for everyone Lydia I don’t know how you do it But i know this place is kinder cause youre here Face the window and think of Yosemite And step away… from the abyss Lydia I don't know how you do it But I know this world is stronger cause youre here So put on Sigur Ros try to quiet your mind now And step.. away.. from the abyss

about

Two songs for two sisters. The songs are sisters in that they were written in the same songwriting arc/sessions. These are the elemental versions of two songs that will likely appear in another form on a later release. They might have waited but my wife Maria asked me to write a song for her sister Lydia for her birthday this year. I gladly took the challenge - especially because Lydia is among the coolest people I know and, as an ICU nurse during a pandemic can use every 'hey you're amazing! hey we love you!' that can be given. The Abyss is for Lydia... I mean.. the song is, not the actual Abyss.. no one needs to live there.

The other song, City Care Forgot, is a Valentine's Day gift to my love, Maria. We love talking about our bouts with wanderlust, and love of sacred/haunted places and how our shared vocations and ways we feel and think about things and places are so wrapped up in our over a quarter century together. CCF is one of those 'hey dear lets get out of this town and start over somewhere else' hopeless romantic songs.. but.. cause i'm who i am, Maria is who she is, its rooted in some sorrow and ferocious fidelity - to each other and to place.

So - Happy Birthday Lydia! Happy Valentines Day Maria! Two sisters, two of my most favorite peoples. Two songs I hope at least help a little.
